Are your Emergency and Crisis Management Plans comprehensive and consistent, and do they address your true risks and potential emergencies and crises?

Do your people understand their responsibilities under your Emergency, Disaster and Crisis Plans?  Will they respond properly and safely?

When were your Emergency and Crisis Plans last reviewed and updated?

In our reviews of client emergency and crisis plans we have often found that the plans more thoroughly address the "accidental" sorts of emergencies (e.g. fire, natural disasters, spills and releases, medical emergencies, etc.) and pay less attention to the purposeful or "man-made" sorts of emergencies and crises (e.g. workplace or school violence, terrorist attack, sabotage, contamination, labor disruption, activist attention, civil disturbance, etc.).  We also often find that the existing emergency plans are out of date, have not been tested, and/or are "gathering dust" and are no longer reasonable or applicable.

A recent study found that at least 39% of firms have no crisis plan at all.

We see proper emergency and crisis planning as part of a continuum, with security and safety measures as the preventive component and emergency and crisis planning as the mitigation, response and recovery component.
